Tropical Storm Nicole lasted barely a day for those of us in Florida, fizzling out by September 29th before even getting to FL.
The remnants of this storm made landfall far up the eastern seaboard of the US, affecting the region around North Carolina and even as far north as Connecticut.
North Carolina had the worst of it with President Obama declaring a Major Disaster!

President Declares Major Disaster For North Carolina

WASHINGTON – The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Craig Fugate announced today that federal aid is available to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, flooding, and straight-line winds associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole during the period of September 27 to October 1, 2010.
Federal funding is available to affected individuals in Beaufort, Bertie, Craven, Hertford, Onslow, and Tyrrell counties. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
W. Montague Winfield has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Winfield said that additional designations may be made at a later date after further evaluation.

Two points need to be made:
- We can never plan for Flooding, it can happen ANYTIME, and ANYWHERE (not just in Hurricane prone areas)
